Leadership has taken on many faces overtime. However, some habits are ever green and worth keeping vigilant of if you want to excel in 2019.

1.) Transparency. Leading with a heavy hitter, transparency looks like different things for different people. Maybe it means you are honest with your team of uncertainties ahead. Perhaps you are simply more open with yourself. Whatever the fashion it is only in ones benefit to be transparent (within reason) with others, as there is strength in vulnerability.

2.) Clarity of Vision. This is crucial when leading a team, because if you don’t know where you are headed your ship will surely crash. In business, you often run into decision fatigue. People usually don’t make decisions if they aren’t asked: “not my role, not my problem.” Leaders see indecisiveness as a chance to take action and help guide and encourage others to get it done.

3.) Inspire Action. It’s one thing to make a decision, and another thing entirely for people to follow suit. Leaders build trust amongst their team and motivate others to greatness.

4.) Lift Others. True leaders know that if their team succeeds, they succeed. They work to help the professional development of colleagues and recognize the hard worth around them.

5.) Challenge The Status Quo. Leaders aren’t shy to play devils advocate. Looking at a problem from diverse angles only leads to better solutions. Sometimes what’s current isn’t working, it’s just that no one has suggested a better way. That’s where a good leader comes in.

It’s up to you to decide what kind of leader you’ll be in 2019, but I’ll leave you with this quote: “If your actions inspire others to dream more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” – John Quincy Adams.
