Who:

Amanda M., born and raised in Ireland

Wonoloer since 2015

What:

Looking to expand her horizons, Amanda M. moved to Boston from her home in Ireland in 1997. She fell in love with the man who would become her husband and together they moved to California. “Then I fell in love with California, too,” she says.

In Ireland, Amanda worked as a beauty therapist (part massage therapist, part electrologist, and part beautician) and, once in California, she held various roles including working as a bank teller, cosmetics associate and as a nanny before taking on her most fulfilling role. “We had a daughter and I became a stay-at-home mom.”

Why Wonolo?

“Once my daughter got old enough, I wanted to make some extra money and ease back into the workforce, but I still needed flexibility and I didn’t want to have to work nights and weekends,” Amanda says. “I had heard about Wonolo from my husband, who is an Uber driver, and I thought I’d give it a try.”

Now a veteran who has completed more than 400 Wonolo gigs, Amanda says her favorite positions are high-energy jobs where she can work with other people. “The jobs that stand out for me were when I worked for Rocksbox and Darby Smart,” she said. “There, I worked in picking/packing/shipping, and it was so fun because you got to work with a great team of people and it was never boring. There was always plenty of work to do and goals to achieve. It led to a great sense of satisfaction on the job.”

Though she’s quickly embraced Wonolo, Amanda says her family is still her number one priority. “I love that there is a good life and work balance with Wonolo. It allows me more time to be with my family, or volunteer at my church for special events,” she says. “I once took a day off so I didn’t have to miss my daughter’s first trip to a pumpkin patch. I still have that kind of flexibility and there’s no required nights or weekends!”

Why Wonolo Works For Amanda:

As her hard work has made her a Wonolo Mentor, Amanda certainly has plenty of experience, and advice, for fellow and future Wonoloers.

“The opportunities that the Wonolo app offers are amazing. New Wonoloers have to establish themselves a little bit, but it doesn’t take long and there are bonuses for completing certain numbers of jobs,” she says. “Along the way, you get to try jobs at various companies and gain valuable work experience.’

While independence and flexibility are high priorities for Amanda, she also realizes that everyone uses the app in their own way, and she also has some advice that can apply to any Wonoloer, new or experienced.

Amanda’s Parting Advice for Aspiring Wonoloers:

“For me, it was a lot of fun choosing jobs from the app. Just remember, whenever you accept a gig, work hard and always try to do your best, because a great rating and keeping withdrawals to a minimum  is helpful on your profile,” she says. “If you work hard, quite often they’ll invite you back, which means you get some steady work, all the while maintaining your independence.”
