Let’s Meet Waynn!
My name is Waynn Lue. I’m based out of Palo Alto and I’m the Vice President of Engineering here at Wonolo.
What was the first thing that caught your eye about Wonolo?
The first thing that caught my eye about Wonolo is that our target customers aren’t the typical ones serviced by Silicon Valley. They tend to be underrepresented. I find that as a super exciting opportunity, especially given the pandemic and just all the changes that the world’s gone through in the last year.
What was unique about your interview process at Wonolo compared to other jobs you interviewed for?
The thing that really stood out for me for the interview process was just how fast and decisive they were. Wonolo was respectful of my time and very communicative throughout the entire process, from the initial point of contact all the way through to the offer. The other part that impressed me was how much focus there was on the Tao of Wonolo or the values that we expect all our employees to have. It’s not just lip service, it’s something that people truly cared about and that they screened for. That came through in all the conversations I had.
What made you decide to join Wonolo?
I joined Wonolo for two reasons. First, because of the mission and what we’re doing to help people find jobs. The tools we’re building to help match people are frankly amazing to see in action. And here in the real world, impact on lives is inspiring to me personally. Second, we’re working on hard technical problems in the engineering organization that I personally wanted to be part of, especially as we grow and scale.
What are you passionate about outside of work?
Outside of work, I love spending time with my family, playing video games, and board games with my friends. Gloom Haven has been a recent addition to our rotation. My wife and I also love planning trips to go scuba diving. One of our best trips was when we did a manta ray night dive in Kona in Hawaii. I also enjoy reading, and one of my favorite books is The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.
