Wonolo
Let’s meet Margot!
Hi, I’m Margot Moellenberg and I live here in beautiful Boulder, Colorado, and I am Wonolo’s first Chief Financial Officer.
What was the first thing that caught your eye about Wonolo?
The thing that caught my eye about the position was that it was a remote CFO job. I’ve always lived in Colorado, so I’ve been limited somewhat by working for Colorado companies. I was really excited about joining a Bay Area tech company.
What was unique about your interview process at Wonolo compared to other jobs you interviewed for?
There are a lot of things about the recruiting process that I loved at Wonolo. My favorite story is that I was set up to do a video call with Yong, our CEO, as an introduction and I happened to be on vacation driving on the Oregon coast. I had the time wrong, so I pulled over quickly when I realized that I was supposed to be on the call. I made it just in time! I was wearing a zip-up fleece, probably hadn’t showered that day, and I was sure that it wasn’t going to go well. But in fact, it went the opposite and Yong and I both had a great first conversation! It’s been great ever since.
What made you decide to join Wonolo?
It’s hard to say the one thing that made me decide to join Wonolo. Certainly, the culture was huge and everybody that I met from the leadership team on the finance side, Angela and Arthur who are amazing, as well as the entire C-suit leadership team. I could just tell that this was a special place. When you look at the employee net promoter score, I’ve never seen a higher number in any company that I’ve ever worked at. I have to say that overall, it was the people and the culture.
What are you passionate about outside of work?
Outside of Wonolo, I’m passionate about a lot of things. First, the outdoors, which I think is typical of most people that live in Colorado. It’s why we choose to live here. I grew up skiing, love to hike my dogs, bike, camp, and I even like to fish. So pretty much anything outdoors!
I’m also super passionate about my family. I’m lucky to be one of seven children. My husband is one of four. We have five kids together, so we have this large extended family here in Colorado that we spend a lot of time with.
I’ll end it with a really nerdy thing, which is, I’d like to do very complicated, intricate paint by numbers. If you don’t know what that is, google it and look it up. It’s basically for not really artists, but accountants who want to be artists because you’re just really painting inside of the lines!
